STEM Ecosystems

STEM Ecosystems were identified in a December 2018 federal report as the top strategy for improving STEM literacy, ensuring a strong workforce and global competitiveness for all, and an important means to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in a thriving STEM workforce.

We are proud to work with the following national partners to bring these strategies and best practices to bear in Northeast Florida. Click their logos to learn more.

The STEM Ecosystems Initiative is built on over a decade of research into successful STEM collaborations and seeks to nurture and scale effective science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning opportunities for all young people.

Launched in Denver at the Clinton Global Initiative, the STEM Funders Network STEM Learning Ecosystems Initiative forms a National Community of Practice with expert coaching and support from leaders such as superintendents, scientists, industry, and others.

The 68 communities selected from across the world compose a global Community of Practice and have demonstrated cross-sector collaborations to deliver rigorous, effective preK-16 instruction in STEM learning. These collaborations happen in schools and beyond the classroom—in afterschool and summer programs, at home, in science centers, libraries and other places both virtual and physical. They spark young people’s engagement, develop their knowledge, strengthen their persistence and nurture their sense of identity and belonging in STEM disciplines. As these STEM Ecosystems evolve, a student will be able to connect what they learn in and out of school with real-world learning opportunities, leading to STEM-related careers and opportunities.

The STEM Funders Network (SFN) is comprised of a diverse mix of more than 20 education-focused private and corporate foundations who are working together to increase the knowledge and expertise of grantmakers investing in STEM, leverage their collective resources, and collaborate on high-impact projects they could not undertake alone.

SFN’s vision is that every young person have an equitable opportunity to engage in high-quality STEM learning experiences that will enhance their ability to succeed in a STEM career or other chosen path.

SFN’s mission is to bring together grantmakers working in STEM to learn from one another, leverage their collective resources and collaborate on high-impact projects they could not undertake alone.

At TIES, we believe that all learners need to be equipped with the right tools to lead meaningful lives and compete in the knowledge economy. This requires a fundamental shift in education emphasize STEM literacy and readiness for all. Teaching and learning need to focus less on fragmented and isolated bits of discrete information, and more on a trans-disciplinary approach that offers students the ability to address real-world issues that affect their family, their community and their world.

This is why all of us at TIES have immersed ourselves in the full spectrum of what goes into creating and designing customized, high-value projects. We never take shortcuts. We curate high-quality resources and reinvent the wheel when necessary. We partner and collaborate. We guide our clients to reach their full potential by establishing the necessary conditions that enable and sustain desired outcomes.
