Florida Times-Union: Duval schools working to boot up more computer careers for girls

Four years ago, boys outnumbered girls 4-to-1 in Duval County high school computer classes. Today those classes have three boys for every two girls, a nearly 60-40 ratio.

Clearly, more girls are computing. That’s good, Duval leaders said this week, but not good enough.

Jacksonville Daily Record: Amazon.com donates $50,000 to to Clay County School District

Amazon.com presented a $50,000 check to the Clay County School District on Tuesday.

The donation will provide five teachers with $3,000 in supplies, with the balance for the district’s science, technology, engineering and math fund.

WJCT: Kathleen Schofield on First Coast Connect

The Northeast Florida STEM2 Hub has some exciting news. Program director Schofield has been selected for a national STEM leadership development program. She is one of only 20 people nationwide invited to participate. Schofield’s organization says this is great news for the local push to get more kids excited about STEM, that’s science, technology and engineering and math.
